Précision_sur la representation :	Au centre de la composition, un groupe de religieuses se dirige sur la droite, en direction de l'échafaud figuré par des marches et une balustrade en bois. Elles sont entourées par la foule et quelques soldats. A gauche de la composition, apparaissent quelques éléments du mur extérieur du théâtre antique. Dans les cieux, un ange dépose une couronne de lauriers et une palme, symbole des martyrs. Une religieuse, sans doute, Sainte Thérèse d'Avila, apparaît en prière. Elle est entourée d'anges.
